The “Passo dello Stelvio”, the Stelvio Pass, is called “The Queen of Alpine Roads”. No wonder, since this climb is a true legend and more than demanding. It attracts road cyclists from all over the world and challenges even the toughest pros during the Giro d’Italia. From Bormio the route winds up in 40 hairpin turns that are spread out on a distance of 21 km / 13 mi to the peak.

The Stelvio Pass lies on 2,758 m / 9,048 ft above sea level, and athletes have to overcome an altitude difference of 1,533 m / 5,030 ft on their way from Bormio to the peak putting their muscles and endurance to the test. The “Passo del Mortirolo” is another tough climb: here, an altitude difference of 1,300 m / 4,265 ft on a distance of around 12 km / 7.7 mi has to be conquered. With an average incline of 10.9% and a maximum climb of 19% the ride up the Mortirolo is everything but an easy task.

Ambitious road cyclists will take their chances with these two legendary passes when the Granfondo Stelvio Santini takes place for the sixth time on June 11. Participants can choose between three different distances, all of which lead over the Stelvio. Brave riders can however attempt the longest route, which includes the Mortirolo pass – another legendary and respected climb. Once you have mastered this, you can be really proud of yourself. While last year, 2,650 road cyclist enthusiasts from 41 different countries joined the Granfondo Stelvio Santini, this year, 3,500 participants who wish to conquer the mighty climbs are expected to take part.
