The Municipality of Cannes has just won a new "Blue Flag" distinction This ecolabel for the environmental quality of beaches guarantees, among other things, clean bathing water. Once again the municipality has been awarded for its efforts over the year, in the framework of the plan of actions in favour of sustainable development, Cannes 21.

Fully dedicated to the protection of its coastline, the Municipality of Cannes has been standing up for its beaches since Autumn 2010. It obtains the Blue Flag for 4 beaches in 2011, 14 beaches in 2012, 13 beaches in 2013, 12 beaches in 2014, 11 beaches in 2015, 13 beaches in 2016 and 14 beaches in 2017.

So, the 14 beaches that have been awarded the Blue Flag label for the 2017 season are: Chantiers navals, Font de Veyre, Gazagnaire, Ile Ste Marguerite Est, Rochers de la Bocca, Trou, Saint Georges, Sud Aviation, Midi, Moure Rouge, Ile Sainte Marguerite Ouest, Bijou, Gare marchandises and the new one for 2017: Riou. But, don't let's forget that Cannes' Pierre Canto port has had this Blue Flag label since 2008.

The Blue Flag programme is a non-profit, internationally managed, non-governmental association called the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education). In France it is the TERAGIR Association, formerly the French office of the Foundation for Environmental Education in Europe). The aim of this programme is to promote the sustainable development of coastal areas and inland waters by criteria of excellence in matters such as environmental education and information, environmental management, management of water quality, security and service. It is working towards co-ordinating touristic and environmental policies on a scale not only local, but regional and national alike.
